Men tournament

FIH Rating - 16

National team of Japan having the highest world ranking point among the participants of the present tournament starts the battle from its second round.

In June of 2010 national team of Japan coached by Siegfried Aikman took part in 4 Nations Invitational Hockey Tournament in Elektrostal and became the winner of the event after beating national team of Russia 5-2 and 4-3 in the final.

The first meeting of Russian and Japanese national teams happened in July of 2009 in Dublin at Challenge II (2-9). In November of the same year at World Cup Qualifier in Lille Japanese team got the second place being defeated just by national team of Pakistan. The match between Japan and Russia ended with a score 4-0.

Present coach of the team Kang Keon-Wook played for national team of South Korea at the Olympics in 1996 and four years later he became a silver winner in Sidney. Kang Keon-Wook was appointed Head Coach of Samurai Japan in the spring of 2011.

At Challenge I in 2011 Japan was the seventh, in 2012 they became the fifth.

At Olympic Qualifier in Kakamigahara they lost their game against South African Republic and their chance for London getting the second place. Matches against Czech Republic and Austria were won 6-0 and 4-1 respectively.

At Asian Champions Trophy in Qatar in December of 2012 national team of Japan closed the final ranking.
